The University of Ghana (UG) has indefinitely postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year, which was scheduled to begin on Monday, October 12, 2026.

In a notice dated October 10, 2026, the university informed students that a new reopening date would be announced in due course.

Management apologised for the inconvenience the postponement may cause and appealed to students to exercise patience and understanding while arrangements are made for the reopening.

The notice was signed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon A. Awandare.

Despite the postponement, the university has urged all students to complete their online academic registration in accordance with the procedure outlined in an earlier communication.

According to management, completing the registration process is essential for students to secure their places in classes and remain eligible to participate in the upcoming random bed allocation exercise.

The university stressed that the bed allocation exercise would be conducted soon, although it did not specify a date for the exercise.

Students have therefore been encouraged to complete the required registration procedures while awaiting the announcement of the revised reopening date.

The University of Ghana has not provided a specific reason for the postponement in the notice, nor has it indicated when academic activities will officially resume.

The decision means students who had prepared to return to campus on October 12 will have to wait for further communication from university management.

Management reiterated its appreciation for the patience and understanding of students, acknowledging the inconvenience associated with the change in the academic calendar.
