The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, begin the next phase of preparations for its national officers’ elections with the balloting of aspirants for positions on the ballot paper.
The exercise will take place at the NPP Headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra following the completion of the vetting of aspirants seeking to contest the party’s 2026 national officers’ elections.
The National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) said the balloting will determine the positions of the cleared aspirants on the ballot paper ahead of the elections.
The specific times for the various positions will be communicated directly to the aspirants. Candidates are expected to participate in the exercise either personally or through duly authorised representatives.
47 aspirants cleared to contest
The balloting follows the conclusion of the vetting exercise conducted from August 31 to September 3, 2026, by the National Officers Election Vetting Committee.
A total of 47 aspirants filed nominations to contest nine national officer positions and appeared before the Vetting Committee.
In a statement dated September 5, the NPP said all 47 aspirants had been recommended as suitable and eligible to contest the positions for which they filed their nominations.
The cleared candidates are distributed across the various positions as follows:
- National Chairman: 4 aspirants
- National Vice-Chairperson: 13 aspirants
- General Secretary: 4 aspirants
- National Treasurer: 4 aspirants
- National Organiser: 8 aspirants
- National Youth Organiser: 6 aspirants
- National Women’s Organiser: 2 aspirants
- National Nasara (Zongo) Organiser: 5 aspirants
- National Communications Director: 1 aspirant
The NOEC said the balloting is an important step towards the conduct of the national officers’ elections and urged all aspirants and their representatives to cooperate fully with the Committee.
The Elections Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the remaining stages of the electoral process in a manner that is fair, transparent, orderly and credible.
It also called on aspirants, their supporters and party members to conduct themselves in ways that promote the unity and integrity of the NPP.
“Balloting for positions on the ballot paper will take place on Wednesday, 9th September 2026, at the NPP Headquarters, Asylum Down, Accra,” the party said in its statement.
Further details regarding subsequent stages of the electoral process are expected to be announced by the party in due course.
The 2026 NPP national officers’ elections are expected to play a significant role in shaping the party’s leadership and organisational structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
