The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has directed heads of pre-tertiary schools across the country to stop administering assessment items and mock examinations that have not been vetted and approved by the Council.
The directive follows concerns over the continued use of assessment materials produced by unapproved consortiums, institutions and individuals in some basic schools.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 8, NaCCA reminded school authorities that it is the statutory body mandated to approve assessment items and tasks for pre-tertiary education in Ghana.
The Council stressed that schools are not permitted to administer externally developed assessment materials unless they have first been vetted and approved by NaCCA.
It has therefore directed all heads of pre-tertiary schools to comply with the directive with immediate effect.
According to NaCCA, the measure is aimed at ensuring that assessment materials used in schools meet prescribed standards and remain aligned with the approved curriculum.
The Council also cautioned schools and other stakeholders that procuring, administering or facilitating the use of unapproved assessment materials could attract appropriate regulatory sanctions.
NaCCA has consequently urged school authorities to verify that all assessment materials used in their institutions have gone through the required approval process before they are administered to learners.
