The death toll from the devastating road crash involving a State Transport Company (STC) bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up and a Kia Sorento at Etukrom near Bonsu Junction in the Eastern Region has risen to three after an 11-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries.
Eastern Regional Fire Service Public Relations Officer, DOIII Ohemeng Adu Aaron, confirmed the development to Citi News, stating that the girl died while receiving treatment after sustaining critical injuries in the crash on Monday, August 3, 2026.
The accident initially claimed two lives and left seven others injured. The injured, comprising five males and two females, were rushed to Hawa Memorial Hospital for treatment. The young girl, who was travelling in the Kia Sorento, later passed away, bringing the death toll to three.
The crash involved an STC bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up with registration number GE 8602-17, and a Kia Sorento with registration number GT 8601-14. The impact left the STC bus, the fuel tanker and the Mitsubishi pick-up completely burnt, while the Kia Sorento sustained extensive damage.
Emergency response teams from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and other agencies responded swiftly to the scene to extinguish the fire, rescue trapped victims and assist in recovery efforts.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased as investigations into the cause of the crash continue. The STC bus involved in the accident bears registration number GS 7050-22.
