A 40-year-old man, identified as Yaw Nyarko, has died after he was allegedly attacked by the brother of a woman he was accused of attempting to rape at Akyem Batabi in the Eastern Region.

The suspect, Bismarck Gbafa, 28, is currently in police custody after voluntarily surrendering to the Akyem Oda Police, where he is assisting with investigations into the incident.

According to residents, the incident was triggered by an alleged attempted rape involving Celina Gbafa, the sister of the suspect.

Residents said Celina had returned home from her farm and informed her brother that while walking back from the farm, Yaw Nyarko allegedly attacked her with a stick and attempted to sexually assault her.

She further alleged that Nyarko was armed with a machete during the encounter but that she managed to break free and escape before reporting the incident to her family.

Following the allegation, Bismarck Gbafa is said to have become enraged and allegedly went in search of Yaw Nyarko.

According to preliminary information, the two later confronted each other, during which Bismarck allegedly slashed Nyarko on the left leg with a machete.

The victim reportedly sustained severe injuries and bled profusely before collapsing. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The police have not publicly confirmed the full sequence of events, and investigations are ongoing.

After realizing that Yaw Nyarko had died, Bismarck Gbafa reportedly surrendered himself to the Akyem Oda Police and informed officers about the incident.
